All I knew about Breaking Bad before seeing this vid is that it's about some guy -- apparently THIS guy -- who used to be a science teacher and then, uh, bad stuff happens. So, um, possibly I am not the ideal audience for this vid?

And yet I loved it -- it's one of my personal standouts from the Premieres show -- and not only because of the song (although: YAY THIS SONG). I get such a clear sense of at least some of the story elements: a science teacher, his family, his 50th birthday... and then some sort of health-related collapse, financial problems, a chance encounter with drug dealers, the decision to start making meth, and then a series of increasingly violent drug-related incidents.

But what comes through most clearly, and what I find most compelling, is the emotional story: a guy whose decisions take him terrifyingly far from the life he used to have and the person he used to be and who is ultimately bewildered by those changes... and yet he keeps on making those drug meets and signing those checks. The song is just so perfect for that story: "I was carried to Ohio in a swarm of bees" is a line that doesn't make much literal sense but makes enormous emotional sense in a slightly surreal way that seems to fit this show amazingly well.

So, basically, you = awesome. Not that that's news. :D
