Wherein the vid is only half the story...

On a lazy Saturday afternoon, burnitbackwards and I took part in an orgy decided to experiment with a new form of collaboration, where we'd take a song, and use that same song to inspire what we do, namely vid and write fic (omg please guess which of us does what).

So this project is both a fusion, because the two media eventually come back to the same source of inspiration, and a fission, because from that starting point we each took off in whatever direction we wished to take.

We decided on Fresh Feeling by Eels. I don't think I need to explain what the song is about, but maybe you have wondered what Justin feels, and smells like, to Brian?

Oh I just loved this so much! I couldn't decide if I should cry or get all hot, so I did a little of both.

Okay here is where I would tell about how great all the technical aspects are if I knew anything about vids, but since I don't I will just tell you that it fucking rocked! I have now watched it 3 times and I just can't stop smiling.

I OMFG LOVELOVELOVE the little eyebrow wiggle/headtilt in time with the music, Justin's crotch (of course), the flashy thing you did in time with the music (yeah, there's got to be a technical name for that!), and the many pretty smiles.

I felt, well, intoxicated -- like Brian is intoxicated by Justin.

That was awesome! I suck so much at feedback for vids, but I loved the dancing/fucking/kissing montages and the way you used effects (like the white-out or whatever it is whenever the song pinged, that was *so* cool) and the whole thing just fucking rocked. And it really, really works for the Brian/Justin relationship. Really, really. :">!

OK, didn't actually crash my computer - just seemed like it was going to for a second. So glad it didn't!

You know, there have been so few vids that have focused on S4 that have made me feel good about the season, because I really didn't like it. In fact, I think that this is the second major one, after Aida's DG vid. I need to watch again before I can say specifically exactly what I liked best, but I can tell you right now that this vid gave me hope that someday I'll look at S4 and be cool with it - and I'm not sure you know how much that is saying for me, but it's really a lot. I will comment more, or YIM offline you more, later.

Oh, Flo... SOOOOO good! I really can't comment on vids well, since all I pretty much know to say is "The flashing bits were pretty" or "Gee, the clips you chose were super". So, yeah. Oh. My. Holy. Freaking. God.

Just when I think you couldn't make any vid that I love better than Affirmation, you make this. Now, I can't say for sure that I love this more than Affirmation: they are, for sure, on completely different realms, but this is simply astounding. Where do I begin?

First off, I love this song. The lyric is so perfect, and the vocal (the Eels? Never heard of them) is clear and elegantly simple. Very nice choice. I really love the background music as well. Very clean and no additional riffs that could have made it unnecessarily complicated.

Secondly, your composition was perfection. I love the start off in black and white, and how it merges into color. I love the use of the white flashes and how they coincide with the song, and the other effects you used: very nicely done indeed. I know you used a lot of effects, but you merged them in so cleanly and so appropriately that it wasn't obvious - it was just elegant and beautiful.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing this one again and again - it's definitely going to be on my regular rotation, along with Affirmation, Elevation and quite a few of your other masterpieces. :)

I, also, didn't think you (or Beth!) could ever like a vid of mine anywhere near your fondness of Affirmation (*cough*itisoverrated*cough*). So I am a puddle of happy at the moment.

First off, I love this song.

Props go to BIBW's brill taste. :X:X:X We were (happily!) agonizing over three songs, but I was all, "You could brill-write in your sleep. I am at the mercy of source and visions. Leave it to me. :>" Then when I tentatively said this one was most viddable, she said she was secretly leaning the same way. Colon-X's ensued. :X:X:X

This means a lot, for serious. Because this is probably the least narrative vidsong I've done. So the vid's story had to hinge more on composition. Thanks also for mentioning your favorite parts. The black and white was done last, actually, but it seemed to provide the sharp contrast needed to convey "freshness" and that it's all about the senses.

I did use quite a few filters, yes. I adjusted contrast and colors and made things glow and look crisper at certain points. These were meant to be subtle, not unlike some movement continuations/parallels in there. (If you're curious, an example of continuation would be around 2:03. Most people probably didn't notice that their eyes were moving from left to right when Justin leans in to kiss Brian on "peeling" and then we find Brian emerging from the darkness at the right, moving to the left.)
